Cocker Spaniel Friendly, people-oriented gundog in two varieties: American and English. American is smaller (≈13.5–15.5″, 20–30 lb); English is a bit larger (≈15–17″, 26–34 lb). Life expectancy is typically 12–15 years.
Coat/grooming: Medium-long, silky coat with feathering; sheds moderately. Brush 3–4×/week, trim every 6–8 weeks, and clean/keep ears dry to prevent infections.
Energy/temperament: Affectionate, eager to please, and sensitive. Needs daily walks and brain games (retrieving, scent work); watch weight gain.
Health watch-outs: Ear infections, eye issues (e.g., cataracts/PRA), hip dysplasia, and skin allergies. Early socialization and gentle, reward-based training work best.
