A small hound with a long, low body and big personality, Dachshunds come in Standard (≈16–32 lb) and Miniature (≤11 lb) sizes with smooth, long-haired, or wire-haired coats. They’re loyal, alert, and playful—great apartment companions if given daily walks and mental games. Grooming is light for smooth coats; long/wire coats need regular brushing and occasional trims. Watch weight (to protect the back) and limit jumping/stairs due to IVDD risk; also monitor for dental, ear, and eye issues. Consistent, positive training and early socialisation help channel their bold, sometimes stubborn, hunting instincts.
